8 Best Vegan Restaurants In Kolkata You Need To Try! | Roshni Sanghvi

Kolkata, the City of Joy, is calling all vegans! The 8 Vegan Restaurants in the city are a must-visit. Let's check them out.

Kolkata has earned its sweet nickname because of its soulful embodiment of culture, love, respect, enthusiasm, and unique sweet delicacies and delicious foods.

In the previous few years, there has been a rapid change in Kolkata's vegan food scenario. Apart from rapid growth in vegetarian restaurants in Kolkata, there are also many vegan restaurants that have opened up.

While it is easier to find vegetarian places all over Kolkata, discovering food joints that serve vegan-friendly dishes is a bit difficult. That's why I have hunted for the city's most amazing vegan-friendly places to hit up with your friends or family the next time you are dining out. Added bonus? They are pretty affordable.

In a city known for its rich and mouth-watering non-veg choices, where the most widely recognized lunch is machh-bhat, I will guide you through some of my favourites and the best vegan restaurants that we have across the metropolis.

1. UBUNTU COMMUNITY:

Located in Lake Gardens, Ubuntu Community is the city's first 100% Vegan café founded by two environmentalists.

An all-in-one space where you can eat and share, Ubuntu Community, is a simple and a cosy place with a beautiful concept. It focuses on mindfulness and a healthier lifestyle for a better tomorrow.

The first eco-friendly community café in Kolkata, Ubuntu, is a space where you can fly in for a meal, host meetups, and retreat with like-minded people.

The menu is filling and super healthy. They have 'Sahi Vada', which is Dahi Vada, made with peanut milk. The mini burgers made use beetroot and spinach with soya and a wheat patty, presented with their special in-house dip. Ubuntu offers everything from black coffee and healthy smoothie bowls to burgers, pasta, and home-baked pizza. You will not get disappointed by choosing this place.

So next time you visit Kolkata or want to host a meetup, you know where to head for great ambience and food.

Address - 188, 85, Prince Anwar Shah Rd, Jodhpur Colony, Lake Gardens, Kolkata, West Bengal 700045

2. URBAN MASALA :

Another prime spot for vegans, Urban Masala, is the latest addition to the veg restaurant scenario in Kolkata. The place has an elegant décor with a comforting ambience.

The pure veg restaurant offers North Indian and South Indian cuisines as well as fast food with a wide range of vegan food options. Isn't that great?

The Agli olio pasta here is a must try. if you are in a mood for some Indian food, do not hesitate to ask the waiter to Veganize some options for you. They will be more than glad to assist.

Being pocket-friendly, this vegetarian restaurant promises to serve you some good vegan dishes.

The ON Café is a multi-cuisine café located in Bhowanipore. The ON (Only Nutrition) Cafe serves a wide variation of Chinese, North Indian, Italian, and Continental food with healthy variants to enjoy every bit of the meal guilt-free.

This place has vegan and gluten-free food on its menu. They have brown noodles, vegan pizzas, tofu wraps, rice noodles, gluten-free rajma chawal and special meals for diabetic people.

The ON Cafe, one of the new additions to the list of vegan restaurants in Kolkata, serves many vegan food options, including the Protein Punch, Fruit Platter, Watermelon Mojito, and so much more.

With a relaxed ambience, they have an open kitchen where you can go and see the food getting prepared in front of your eyes! A perfect eating spot with the whole family.

    4. FLY KOUZINA:

If you are missing the airport scene this lockdown, then this place is nostalgic!

The City of Joy has brought another innovative multicuisine aeroplane themed vegetarian restaurant with various vegan options. If you are looking for amusement for your eyes as well as your taste buds, then this is the place for you!

Situated in the heart of Salt lake, Cafe Fly Kouzina invites you with a whole aeroplane experience; they even give you a boarding pass!

I ordered their 'Broccoli Dumplings' and 'Khao Suey' for myself and was not disappointed. The taste of the food here is decent. The presentation of the meals in this restaurant is unique. An ideal place for a date with bae, hanging out with friends, and even for a family get together.

Address – AD 73, AD Block, Sector 1, Bidhannagar, Kolkata, West Bengal 700064

      5. THE DAILY CAFÉ:

Located in Deshopriyo Park, The Daily Café radiates a millennial vibe the second you enter the space. With minimal décoration and simple furniture, the café is gorgeously done in dazzling neon pink with flamingo cushions.

From hummus platters to salads, the Daily offers a variety of vegan food options as well. Health enthusiasts can try the 'Keen-Waah' salad made of quinoa, red cabbage, cherry tomatoes, olives, leaves, a lemon dressing, and fresh herbs.

Also try the salad named 'Avo' made of avocado, kale, tomatoes, almonds, lemon mint dressing, and olives.

For dessert, they have berry cakes made using vegan almond milk and whipped cream.

I ordered their 'Sweet Potato and Avo Taco' for myself. It was a warm and delicious platter consisting of chipotle, homemade tortilla, slaw and peppers.

A perfect place if you want to enjoy garden vibes or even work.

Have you ever been to jail? This might be as close to it as it gets. Kaidi Kitchen is a multi-cuisine restaurant and another innovative restaurant in the city. It is a jail-themed veg restaurant with ample vegan options.

The restaurant resembles prison cells, and the diner literally becomes a prisoner. The ambience is funny here. Do you know the fun part? The waiters are dressed like kaidis.

Coming to the meals, the food options here are abundant if you are not shy to customise your order with the manager. Try the Mexican corn soup without the parmesan or even their fajitas.

If you want some Mexican in the city, try this place.

The décor and ambience are exquisite. If you are a fan of Asian cuisine, this is your one-stop for mouth-watering dishes.

Almost half of the menu in this restaurant is vegan. The 'Thai Basil Fried Rice', 'Phad Stew', and 'Buddha's Delight', are some of the suggested dishes. Besides, there are several other options too.

I also tried their exotic Dimsum 'Exotic Veg Sui Mai.' This item is an open-faced dumpling presented with homemade black beans, spicy chilli, coriander, and spring onion dips. The fantastic taste has still not faded from my mouth.

Another must-visit spot for extraordinary food for my vegan friends.

        8. INDIES:

Last but not least, here I come to another vegan restaurant in Kolkata. A multi-cuisine pure veg restaurant that serves North Indian, Italian, Continental, Mexican, and Chinese.

This is a fine dining place with a wide menu and ample options. You are sure to find something for your taste here. Their waiters are aware about Veganism and glad to omit the ghee and cream from Indian curries.

The place is super cosy, and the ambience is enjoyable.

Though there are few all vegan restaurants in Kolkata, there are options available in vegetarian eateries. With regard to the growing Vegan scene in India, Kolkata still is behind.

Comment if I missed any of your favourite vegan restaurants in Kolkata! You must explore the restaurants I mentioned earlier. Do share these 8 restaurants with your vegan friend!
