Tried everything and still not seeing results?

What nervous system are you operating from?

You could be following the healthiest diet in the world but still experience bloating, gas, and stubborn weight gain.

You could be training with the best coaches across the globe and still not see your body tone.

Why does this happen? Well turns out, stress plays a huge role when it comes to digestion and absorption.

Humans operate from one of two kinds of states.

The sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system:

What is the difference between the Sympathetic And Parasympathetic Nervous System?

Ever heard of the ‘fight or flight’ response? It’s as if you are preparing your body in a constant state of war. This is the sympathetic nervous system. You do not even need an actual war in the near future, but simple things like financial stress, relationship stress, work pressure, peer pressure etc can put you in this state. Even stupid things like your favorite movie character dying, calling your mom, running out of toilet paper are enough to trigger the sympathetic nervous system.

The parasympathetic nervous system, on the other hand, inhibits the body from overworking and restores the body to a calm and composed state. It is like reaching a state of meditation and being peaceful with oneself.

How does this relate to digestion and weight gain?

Now when you sit for a meal and you are in a sympathetic state the body digests food differently. Lesser digestive enzymes are released. Besides this, stress hormones are elevated, boosting insulin resistance and storing more calories as body fat.

Note here, the type of food you eat will not matter. You could be. eating the healthiest and most organic food, but will still experience indigestion and bloating.

On the contrary, you could eat junk in the parasympathetic state and still have no problems digesting it.

How to switch from one state to another?

  • Incorporate the following practices when you sit to eat:

  • Enjoy your meals without distractions- No TV’s/ phones and laptops.

  • Eat only at the dining table. Avoid eating on the bed/ car and work desks.

  • Take 5 deep inhalations/ exhalations before you start your meal. Maybe even a gratitude prayer.

  • Take 20- 25 minutes to eat (time yourself) and chew well.

  • If the company of some people makes you uncomfortable, avoid eating with them.

If you are doing everything right but still do not see results, I hope the above helps.
