Gas and Bloating... aaggghhh!

Those stinky farts.

Although a common digestive issue, it is important to get to the root cause of your bloating.

As a healthy body, you should not feel constantly bloated. Non- stinky farts, on the other hand, are normal.

Stinky farts are mostly caused by sulphur containing foods such as eggs and meat. They are not healthy.

What is causing gas and bloating in your body?

Gas and bloating are consequences of several disorders. But all the disorders point to one direction, bad gut motility.

Few obvious food additives might be the culprit. Namely, protein powders and artificial sweeteners. The splenda on your chai is not so sweet after all.

Artificial sweeteners…

There are 3 specific artificial sweeteners that you should surely look out for and avoid at any cost. They are known as Aspartame, Sorbitol, and Galactose.

While purchasing a protein powder, do not forget to look at the ingredients of the artificial sweeteners. Make sure that they do not contain the above-mentioned artificial sweeteners.

Most importantly, you DO NOT need a protein powder while trying to lose weight. You do not need a protein supplement to maintain your muscle mass either. Avoid them if you can.

What does science say?

The use of sugar-free food products is increasing among the growing health-conscious generation. However, the inclusion of artificial sweeteners in several products has in reality lead to adverse effects.

Studies have also been conducted in this regard. One such study was held in 2019 which was called ‘Effects of Sweeteners on the Gut Microbiota: A Review of Experimental Studies and Clinical Trials’. Findings prove the potential effects of artificial sweeteners on our gut microbiome.

Actionable tip of the day

Take it from my own experience, I have not used protein powder for years now. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I train pretty intensely and lift real heavy.

Avoid protein powders and artificial sweeteners when you can.
