Exercise- you must. - Roshni Sanghvi

Exercise- you must.

One more newsletter to inspire you to workout.

As I am writing these newsletters, I realize that most of you already know everything that I write. You know fruits are important, and that you need to sleep enough, and that fitness is non-negotiable.

But ask yourself, in spite of knowing the benefits, why are you not able to follow most aspects of a healthy lifestyle? So every time I write a new newsletter now, I write with the intent to help you understand the same concept in a new light. Maybe a new study will inspire you or something I write differently will inspire you.

I am not sure who this newsletter will inspire, but I sure do hope it churns some people enough to make a change in their lifestyle…

Today’s topic- Exercise.

I remember post my COVID/ pneumonia episode when I could not take 20 steps away from my bed. I would get out of breath if I even just got up.

But those few months made me realize to exercise because you can. Yes, you can. Today if you decide to get up and run, you can. There are millions of people across the globe who can’t even if they wanted to. YOU CAN.

You can play cricket, you can do yoga, you can take a kickboxing class, and all this from the comfort of your living room with Youtube.

If you are physically capable, you should have no reason to skip 30 minutes of actively moving your body per day.

Studies show that as little as 30 minutes of exercise every day can boost our general health and well-being.

Irrespective of the type, exercising has been shown to have many health benefits that help you live longer, both physically and mentally.

  • Reduced stress - Exercise increases your body’s amount of norepinephrine, i.e. the chemical that can moderate your brain’s response to stress and stressful situations. Working out regularly can considerably improve your mood and decrease feelings of depression, anxiety, and stress. The production of endorphins with exercise helps to create a positive outlook making you feel happier.

  • Weight loss – Keep in mind that a 30 minutes exercise per day can help you to prevent excess weight gain or maintain weight loss. An inactive lifestyle can be a major factor in weight gain and obesity among people.

  • Reduce risk of chronic diseases - Regular exercise has been discovered to improve heart health, insulin sensitivity, and body composition while also decreasing blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

What does science say?

A 2016 study reviewed the effects of individual weekly exercise on the resting metabolic rate of normal adults. The values in the study were clearly found to increase as the individual amount of exercise increased.

A 2006 study also confirmed the irrefutable evidence of the effectiveness of regular physical activity in the primary and secondary prevention of several chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, obesity, depression, and osteoporosis) and premature death.
