Diarrhea? - Roshni Sanghvi

Diarrhea?

Here is one reason why...

f you have constantly struggled with diarrhea, I would highly suggest you go see a doctor first. Gut health should not be taken lightly and might need a multi-dimensional treatment plan.

There could really be multiple reasons for diarrhea, I will discuss one of them here.

One common cause of diarrhea is the consumption of high-fat foods.

There are people who have trouble digesting foods that are creamy or fried. Due to improper digestion, fatty foods end up in the colon and break down into fatty acids.

This causes the colon to secrete fluid and cause diarrhea. In and of itself, diarrhea poses no serious health risks. Dehydration and electrolyte depletion, however, can occur if the condition becomes chronic.

Another factor due to which you may have diarrhea could be the enzyme called lipase.

Lipase, produced by the pancreas, is a digestive enzyme that aids in the breakdown of fats. Lipase is also used as a medication by some people.

Indigestion (dyspepsia), heartburn, and other gastrointestinal issues are treated with lipase. Lipase appears to work by dissolving fat into smaller pieces, making digestion easier.

In aging and diabetic people, the activity of lipase drops in their bodies. This results in high-fat meals causing digestive problems. As such, it is highly advisable to avoid fats. Though fats are necessary for nutrient absorption, too much can be harmful.

When choosing to add fats to your meal, choose good quality fats like walnuts or flax seeds instead of oil’s. Add a handful of nuts/seeds or a few olives to your salad and you're good to go. Avoid using oils or salad dressings that are high in fat. Experiment with oil-free cooking and observe how you react to a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet.
